President, governor to highlight Helene recovery in Georgia today

President Joe Biden is due to visit Georgia to tour Helene damage, while Gov. Brian Kemp is giving remarks in the mid-morning.

ATLANTA — President Joe Biden will visit Georgia today and Gov. Brian Kemp will give an update in the mid-morning as leaders continue to highlight recovery efforts in Georgia from Hurricane Helene.

The president was in the Carolinas yesterday, and his visit follows on a visit to Georgia yesterday by Vice President Kamala Harris, who was briefed on recovery efforts in Augusta and delivered remarks.

President Biden is due to travel in the later afternoon to the Valdosta area. There are currently no details available on what his visit will entail.

Gov. Kemp, meanwhile, is set to deliver remarks at the Georgia Capitol at 10:30 a.m. 11Alive will stream those remarks in the video player above this story and on our YouTube channel.

According to a release from the Governor's Office, Kemp will touch on "Georgia's ongoing response to and recovery from Hurricane Helene." He will be joined by Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp, Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security Director Chris Stallings, General Dwayne Wilson of the Georgia National Guard, and Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry.

Kemp in the last week has visited the Valdosta and Augusta areas, both hard-hit by Helene. Former President Donald Trump was also in Valdosta this week to tour the area and give remarks.
