Nadine could form in the Caribbean this weekend

The National Hurricane Center is now issuing advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Fifteen

BELIZE CITY, Belize — Less than 10 days removed from Milton's destructive landfall in Florida, the next tropical depression or named storm could form in the Caribbean Sea this weekend.

2024 Hurricane Season | Could Nadine Form?

The National Hurricane Center is now issuing advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Fifteen. Although it is not a tropical depression or storm yet, it likely will become one within the next day before moving inland. There will be impacts in its path, so by issuing advisories, the National Hurricane Center can also issue Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings.

Here is the new track from the National Hurricane Center. This is forecast to become a tropical storm before landfall in Belize. The next name on the Atlantic Basin list is Nadine (nay-DEEN).

Spaghetti models are in very good agreement with where Potential Tropical Cyclone 15 will be steered. They all take it due westward, generally in the direction of Belize, with some impacts along the southeastern Yucatan Peninsula as well.

Tropical Storm Watches or Warnings could be issued later on Friday if the system becomes better organized. Regardless of development, heavy rain is likely to impact the area through the weekend.

How many hurricanes have there been this season?

The 2024 Hurricane Season will leave its mark forever. So far, there have been 13 named storms in the Atlantic Basin. Nine of those became hurricanes. Four of the nine hurricanes reached major hurricane status, a Category 3 or higher. This included Helene, which was the U.S.'s deadliest hurricane since Katrina. Thirty-three Georgians lost their lives in Helene, and nearly 100 lost their lives in North Carolina.

Although more than a month removed from the season's "peak," there is still a ways to go. Hurricane Season officially ends on November 30, in about six weeks.
