VP Harris in Georgia today to tour Helene damage | What to know

Vice President Kamala Harris is headed to Augusta.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Vice President Kamala Harris is headed to Georgia on Wednesday to tour damage caused by Helene. 

It is part of a general plan for the Democratic nominee to visit Helene-impacted areas, with a visit to North Carolina also in the works for the coming days according to Associated Press reporting. She will be joined in Augusta on Wednesday by Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Harris' team has been working to coordinate her plans to avoid impacting local disaster response efforts, according to the AP. After Georgia, Harris plans to continue with scheduled campaign visits to Wisconsin and Michigan later this week, with the North Carolina trip coming sometime after that.

President Joe Biden will visit North Carolina on Wednesday, checking out the worst damage in the Asheville area by helicopter to avoid tying up local resources.

Republican nominee Donald Trump also visited Georgia on Monday, traveling to Valdosta.

  • Where Harris is headed: The vice president will travel to Augusta and is due to arrive via Air Force Two around 2:30 p.m. ET. It has not been disclosed where in Augusta Harris will visit.
  • Remarks: VP Harris will "provide updates on federal actions that are being taken to support emergency response and recovery efforts in Georgia and other states throughout the Southeast following Hurricane Helen," a White House release said. They will be livestreamed here.
  • Departure: The vice president is scheduled to depart Georgia a little after 6 p.m.
