Northwest Georgia is no stranger to weak earthquakes. It is located near the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone, which includes the Ridge-And-Valley portion of northwest Georgia up through eastern Tennessee. Earthquakes are fairly common there.

This earthquake is not associated with the recent seismic swarm located near Lake Lanier earlier this summer.
