ATLANTA — After a gorgeous Mother's Day weekend, unsettled weather makes a comeback to north Georgia for the work week.
We're tracking a parade of systems that will bring a chance of showers and storms to north Georgia. As of Monday, the only day without a chance of rain in the forecast this week is Thursday.
Areas of light rain and scattered showers continue through Monday afternoon. By Tuesday, rain chances increase to 80%, with some areas of rain in the morning and a few storms later in the day. We'll be tracking isolated showers/storms on Wednesday. Then to round out the week, more showers and storms are possible Friday into Saturday.
Over the next seven days, rain totals could range from 1 to 3 inches on average, and those amounts could be higher in central Georgia. Below is the current model rainfall comparison, both showing isolated 4"+ totals south of I-20.
Day-by-day weather forecast
Monday
Isolated showers may linger this evening, but many areas will dry out.
Tuesday
Some areas of rain and embedded storms push into the area in the morning. At times, the rain could be fairly widespread.
After some early afternoon lulls, additional scattered showers and storms develop for the late afternoon and evening.
With the atmosphere having a couple of drier hours before the late-day storms develop, temperatures should rebound to around 80. This will allow for a little more energy for storms. An isolated strong or severe storm with gusty winds will be possible. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in a Level 1 threat of severe weather for this time frame.
Wednesday
Behind the front, isolated showers and storms could still develop Wednesday with a northwest wind. We do not expect these to turn strong or severe.
Thursday
This will be our one completely dry day! Expect mostly sunny skies and temps in the mid-80s.
Friday
The next storm system pushes in late Friday, bringing another wave of showers and storms to the area. Right now, we have a rain chance at 60% for the day.
Saturday
Showers and storms are still possible Saturday in the morning to early afternoon.
