More rain is on the way, which may bring down trees

Up to another 2 inches of rain is possible before 2018 comes to a close.

Heavy rains over the final week of 2018 are making for dangerous conditions in some areas with some trees coming down.

The heavy rains have weakened the soil in some areas allowing the roots on some trees to loosen from the ground, bringing the trees to the ground.

Older and diseased trees are more susceptible to falling under these conditions.

Saturday morning, a large tree fell on the roof of a house and two cars in the 1900 block of LaDawn Lane in northwest Atlanta, trapping both cars in a driveway and exposing a massive rootball on the tree.

Up to 4 inches of rain has already fallen across portions of north Georgia since Thursday.

11Alive meteorologist Wes Peery says not to be fooled by Saturday afternoon's sunny skies. The rains will return, with another 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall possible through Tuesday.

A number of local streams and rivers are already under flood advisories or flood warnings, and additional flood advisories may be issued with additional rainfall between now and Tuesday.

Elevated water levels are likely to stay well beyond the time that any rainfall ends, as water continues to runoff into streams and rivers.
