ATLANTA — Strong storms will be possible across north Georgia Tuesday and Wednesday.
The severe threat will come through in two rounds. The first threat of severe weather will arrive on Tuesday.
We will have a range of threat levels across North Georgia with the lower threat being into the far northern region at a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5).
The Atlanta metro and most spots along the I-20 corridor will be under a slight risk (level 2 out of 5).
Meanwhile, the highest risk for our area will be an enhanced risk (level 3 out of 5) for areas south of the I-20 corridor and down toward Macon.
The main risks with this round of severe weather will be damaging wind with an isolated tornado possible. Heavy rain will also be an issue at times, which may lead to localized flooding.
The timing of the storms shows them moving in during the middle part of the morning for areas along the Alabama and Georgia border.
The storms will then continue to the east and impact the Atlanta area a little before noon.
During the early afternoon, storms will move east of Atlanta and the I-85 corridor.
By mid-afternoon, storms will be east of the region with just a few lingering showers left over.
The second round of severe storms will move in for Wednesday night into Thursday morning. A majority of North Georgia will be left under an enhanced risk for severe weather (level 3 out of 5). This will be the larger threat for severe weather out of our two events.
Storms will likely move in after sunset on Wednesday and move through the overnight hours. Damaging wind will be the main threat, but a few tornadoes may also be possible.
Stay weather aware this week as we continue to track the severe weather threat.
With the strong storms, we will also get a good amount of rain with an inch to three inches falling across a majority of the region.
