ATLANTA — We had a major storm system sweeping through north Georgia earlier this week, and our next system arrives Friday with heavy rain, damaging wind, and even an isolated tornado possible.
What to know:
- Damaging wind will be a threat in and out of storms with a wind advisory and high wind warning in parts of north Georgia.
- Additional rainfall will leave the ground saturated, which could lead to more trees coming down.
The winds will be strong both ahead and behind the rain. A Wind Advisory is in place from Friday morning into the early hours of Saturday morning. Wind will be anywhere from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. In far north Georgia, a High Wind Warning is in place with gusts possibly up to 50 mph.
Luckily, temperatures have been cooler today, which has lowered our chances for severe weather. There is a Level 1 risk of severe weather over the area.
The main line of storms clears the Atlanta area early this evening. An isolated stronger storm can't be ruled out with gusty winds.
Storms will move out early Friday evening, and cooler, drier conditions will begin to move in with a much colder air mass for the weekend, as temperatures will be in the 20s to 30s for lows and 40s for highs.
Expect anywhere from half an inch to an inch of rain to occur across north Georgia before the shower activity moves out early Friday evening.
