A strong thunderstorm to the east of Athens has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Madison, Oglethorpe and Wilkes counties until 4:45 p.m.
At 4:19 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was reported over Vesta, or 10 miles northeast of Lexington, moving northeast at 10 mph.
