Homes struck by lightning in Gwinnett County, fire officials say

Fire officials said due to the "intense cloud-to-ground lightning," homes were struck.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Multiple homes in Gwinnett County were struck by lightning overnight, according to a statement from the county fire department.

Fire personnel said they were called to a house fire around 11:39 p.m. on Wednesday. The house was along the 1600 block of Margate Court NW. 

The fire was at the rear of the home. They said they were able to control the flames in 15 minutes. 

The home did sustain heavy fire damage, Gwinnett fire officials said. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Fire officials said they headed back to the 1100 block of Hiram Davis Road SE around 1:06 a.m. where they located a large outbuilding that caught fire. There were no injuries reported. 

Lastly, firefighters investigated lightning strikes that caused multiple small fires inside homes along the 400 block of Theresa Court NW and the 2600 block of Freemans Walk Drive NE. They did not say if anyone was hurt in this fire.
