ATLANTA — Monday and Tuesday of this week brought a sky full of smoke and haze, which was brought down from the Canadian wildfires by the jet stream.
We were in need of a storm system to pass through, or a change in the jet stream to clear the air and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning brought the much needed rain system through.
While not everyone had rain, the winds that pushed out as the storm complex collapsed helped to push the smoke and haze out of our region.
Air quality was as low as unhealthy for Tuesday afternoon, but for Wednesday, we are seeing much better conditions at only a moderate level for air quality in Atlanta.
Our model that tracks the smoke forecast shows the smoke pushed to the south by the system from Tuesday night, but we may not be completely done with.
The model shows smoke moving back over the region for Thursday, but it does not look like the smoke will be as thick as what we dealt with on Monday and Tuesday.
Don't be surprised by the possibility of a brief return of the hazy skies for the end of the week, but it will also be possible that rain chances help push the smoke away from us and keep our air quality from slipping. Either way, it is unlikely our air quality will fall as low as what we had for Monday and Tuesday.
