------

UPDATE (6 A.M.): The Winter Weather Advisories were canceled for the metro. The warnings initially set to expire at Noon in North Georgia will also likely expire early.

------

A Winter Weather Advisory has been extended to include parts of metro Atlanta until noon on Sunday as parts of the region are already seeing snow and others remain under a Winter Storm Warning.

Snowflakes and/or sleet, already spotted across the region so far, will continue into the overnight hours.

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect until 12 p.m. Sunday for Lumpkin, Towns, Union, White, Habersham, and Rabun counties. These areas can expect light snow and freezing rain from one to three inches and more locally at higher elevations.

A Winter Weather Advisory has also been expanded for Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Jackson, Gwinnett, and Barrow counties until noon Sunday.

In these areas, there is a chance of snow accumulations and sleet of one to two inches. This primarily impacts portions of northeast Georgia mainly along and north of the I-85 corridor.

A Winter Weather Advisory also continues until noon Sunday for Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens and Dawson counties. Total snow accumulations of one to two inches are possible with locally higher amounts above 2,000 feet. Lower elevations can still see up to an inch of snow.

In both advisories, roads in these areas could become slushy, slick or snow-covered leading to dangerous travel conditions.

Up to 2" of snow and slush can make for hazardous road conditions

Rain will overspread the area from south to north during the afternoon hours. This may start as a period with some sleet or snow in addition to rain.

Late evening enough cold air will be in place to allow for a changeover to snow in Northeast Georgia, first in the higher elevations and then later at lower elevations. Some sleet may mix in as well. In the metro area, it will be predominantly rain, but some flakes or sleet pellets may mix in as well north of I-20. Temps will remain above freezing everywhere but in higher elevations.

In the overnight, lighter showers continue in the metro with the wintry mix ongoing in higher elevations where temps remain near freezing.

One last push of rain and snow works its way through North Georgia early Sunday morning. The last of the showers should end between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunshine returns by the afternoon Sunday.

Temperatures will be above freezing while the snow is falling. Roads in the metro will stay just wet with mostly rain. Some roads could turn slushy, slick, or snow-covered in the mountains in NE Georgia.

Our weather models continue to show the potential for several inches of snow in the higher elevations of the mountains in northeast Georgia.
