Wave of storms moving through metro Atlanta | Latest updates

ATLANTA — Another round of afternoon thunderstorms is making its way through metro Atlanta on Thursday.

Heavy rain and frequent lightning are possible.  A couple of storms may be capable of producing strong winds, but the severe weather threat is overall low. The Storm Prediction Center did add northeast Georgia in a Level 1 threat of severe weather for gusty winds.

Latest updates

5:29 p.m.: Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 5:28 PM to 6:00 PM EDT for Paulding County and Cobb County

4:53 p.m.: The Gordon County EMA said that Union Grove Church Road is closed from Union Grove Road to Trimble Hollow Road for cleanup of downed trees. It's unclear when the road will reopen. Authorities said no structural damage was reported.

4:30 p.m.: Ground stop issued for Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 6:30 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
