Scattered showers possible through Sunday morning | Timeline

Waves of showers and rain will move across the area Saturday and Sunday.

ATLANTA — As we turn the calendar to December, we have started with a wet weather period with showers on Friday and more showers possible Saturday and into Sunday.

The wettest day of the stretch is forecast to be Saturday across the region and there have already been a few showers on radar for the morning and into the early afternoon.

Here's what to know:

  • The most widespread rain will be on Saturday.
  • In total, up to an additional inch of rain will be possible for the rest of the weekend.
  • Isolated thunderstorms are possible, especially on Saturday, but no severe weather is expected.

Timeline:

  • Saturday Afternoon

More rain is likely, and it could be heavy at times. There may also be a few thunderstorms, mainly south of I-20, but nothing severe is expected in our region. Temps rise into the 60s again.

  • Sunday

A few light to moderate showers will be possible in the morning, but drier conditions return for the afternoon.

How Much Rain?

Unfortunately, it isn't looking like we will get as much rain as previously thought. Over the next seven days, we are expecting less than an inch of rain across the region with much of us getting less than half an inch. Nearly all of this will occur within the next 36 hours.

Will it wipe out our drought?

Although it won't wipe out our drought, it will put another dent in it. In Thursday's drought monitor, we finally wiped out our level 4 'exceptional' drought in northwest Georgia. We hope to see less Level 3 drought after this weekend's rain as well.
