ATLANTA — The last few days may have been a "Spring of Deception" in Atlanta. After hitting the 70s, we're in for a huge wake-up call Wednesday, with temperatures ending up more winter-like by the evening commute.
When you leave the house on Wednesday morning -- don't forget a jacket. We'll start off the day in the 60s and quickly top out in the 70s around noon. But later in the afternoon, a sharp 20-degree temperature drop is expected in a matter of hours.
The 11Alive StormTrackers forecast that cold air advection behind an incoming cold front will bring a sharp temperature drop.
This will happen with strong gusty winds that turn northwesterly in the afternoon. The strong winds will be around the Atlanta area and north Georgia all day Wednesday. The area will be under a wind advisory with gusts of up to 45 mph possible.
Here's how the temperatures drop in Atlanta in the afternoon. Temperatures between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. make it up into the 70s. When the front pushes into the area, they'll drop by about 15 degrees in just 90 minutes. Then, the cold air will continue to spill into the region, dropping the temperatures further through the 50s and into the 40s by 6 p.m. in the evening.
From late spring to winter, it was a matter of hours. It's just another day in Atlanta.
We will also be tracking rain chances in the afternoon for the area.
