Tips to be able to see northern lights over Georgia

  • Take out your smartphone, open your camera app up and point it to the sky if you can't see it from plain sight -- or want to see it better. Your camera will likely be able to see it better than your eyes based on the way it captures light.
  • Put your phone's camera in dark mode -- the longer your phone is in dark mode to capture the photo, the better it will turn out.
  • Tweak the exposure time of your iPhone to maximize the potential of your shot. Access the hidden settings menu in the iPhone's camera app by tapping the top arrow.
  • Get to a place with little to no light pollution. The darker it is around you, the more likely it is that you will be the aurora borealis phenomena.
  • Of course, the forecast calls for clear skies over Georgia tonight, which is absolutely necessary. If you do these things right here, you should be in pretty good shape to see the northern lights over metro Atlanta and north Georgia tonight -- and they might even look like this!
