ATLANTA — Nicole downgraded to a tropical depression. It will still bring rain and wind to our area.
The track for the storm has it moving north into south Georgia early Friday morning, where the storm will have weakened significantly. Despite the weakening, the storm will likely still leave some minor impacts on North Georgia.
Winds have already picked up across much of the state and will stay fairly strong throughout the day on Friday. A Wind Advisory is in effect for much of North Georgia until 7 p.m. Friday. Sustained winds will be between 15 mph and 25 mph. Gusts could reach 40 mph.
Overnight:
Rainy conditions with wind gusting up to 40mph at times. It will be a wet drive into work Friday morning.
Some of our highest impacts will likely be felt from the middle of the morning into late morning Friday with heavy rain and strong wind throughout much of north Georgia. Some of the higher elevations in the far north Georgia mountains may get gusts as high as 50 mph.
Rain moves out just as quickly as it moves in. Rain will move out by Friday afternoon, and we should be dry across North Georgia by Friday evening.
The strong wind and heavy rain may lead to a few isolated power outages in spots and isolated flooding, but we do not expect widespread issues.
A cold front moves in on Saturday and we will get much cooler and quieter conditions behind it.
One additional impact we will have from this storm is the fall foliage will likely be nearly all gone as the trees will struggle to retain their leaves with the stronger winds.
We will continue to keep you updated on Nicole as it approaches.
