Video, photos show damaged home after tree falls through sleeping teen's bedroom

Kennedy Brooks thought she was dreaming when just after midnight, a huge tree crashed through her room.

MORROW, Ga. — A tree in Morrow crashed into the bedroom of a sleeping teenager, almost crushing her, as strong winds moved through the area Wednesday night.

Kennedy Brooks thought she was dreaming when just after midnight, a huge tree crashed through her room, missing her by inches.

“The insulation, I was covered on my face my arms my legs and my mouth,” said Brooks.

She was shocked when it happened.

"I just knew one thing and one thing only, was to flight, to get out of there,” she said.

Photos show her damaged bedroom.

Her mom, Lonnie, was sleeping down the hall and woke up when the tree hit.

“I can’t believe she slept through this, but let’s get her out of here, I was yelling, 'Kennedy! get up! get out of here,'" her mom said.

The teen said that's when she realized the ceiling had crashed down on her leg.

“So now, I have a bruised swollen leg going on,” Kennedy said.

Lonnie said seeing the tree so close to her child was horrifying.

“She came out and we were both just crying and in tears and just hugging, and just so grateful we were both still alive,” she said.

Crews went to the home Thursday to begin clearing the debris.
