List of warming centers open in metro Atlanta

11Alive has put together a list of warming centers that are open amidst the sub-freezing conditions.

ATLANTA — As frigid temperatures continue to impact communities across metro Atlanta, warming centers are opening their doors to the public.

11Alive has put together a list of warming centers that are open amidst the sub-freezing conditions. This list will be updated as information becomes available.

Metro Atlanta

Fulton County

Atlanta

Atlanta Fulton Emergency Management Agency is updating the county's list of temporary warming shelters by city.

  • Central Park Recreation Center (400 Meritts Avenue NE) - Will remain open through 10 a.m. Thursday and be extended if necessary based on forecasts
    • Transportation will be provided from the Gateway Center (275 Pryor St. SW) beginning at 8 p.m., with return transportation upon deactivation.
  • Burdett Multipurpose Facility (2945 Burdett Road) - Open Jan. 16 through Jan. 22
  • College Park Public Safety Complex Community Room (3717 College Street) - Open Wednesday from 6 p.m. until Thursday at 8 a.m.
  • Palmetto Community Center (595 Main Street) - Open Wednesday night
  • Etris Darnell Community Center (5285 Lakeside Drive) - Open Wednesday night into Thursday morning from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Chattahoochee Fire Department - Plan to support 10 people or three families. Will relocate to Fellowship Center of Providence Baptist Church if need is greater

DeKalb County

The following warming center locations are open 24 hours through 8 a.m. Thursday morning:

  • Exchange Park Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur
  • Mason Mill Recreation Center, 1340 McConnell Drive, Decatur
  • Tobie Grant, 593 Parkdale Drive, Scottdale
  • Frontline Response International, 2585 Gresham Road, Atlanta

The following locations are open on Wednesday and Thursday nights beginning at 8 p.m.

  • Fire Station 3, 100 N. Clarendon Avenue, Avondale Estates
  • Fire Station 4, 4540 Flakes Mill Road, Ellenwood
  • Fire Station 6, 2342 Flat Shoals Road, Atlanta
  • North DeKalb Senior Center, 3393 Malone Drive, Chamblee

Clayton County

Open 24 hours through Saturday, Jan. 20

  • Clayton County Police Department Headquarters, Community Room (7911 North McDonough St.)

Open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 20

  • Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center (3499 Rex Road)
  • Flint River Community Center (153 Flint River Road)
  • Virginia Gray Recreation Center (1475 East Fayetteville Road)
  • Lake Spivey Recreation Center (2300 Walt Stephens Road)
  • Jim Hule Recreation Center & Steve Lundquist Aquatic Center (9045 Tara Boulevard)
  • South Clayton Recreation Center (1837 McDonough Road)

Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 20

  • Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters (7810 Highway 85)

Wednesday morning was our coldest morning since Dec. 24, 2022. Atlanta got down to 14° with a wind chill around 0°.  With mostly clear skies, it will be another very cold night Wednesday into Thursday morning across north Georgia. Lows fall back into the 10s and 20s, making it super important to be sure you're in a warm place overnight.
