ATLANTA — A Weather Impact Alert has been issued for Friday as a heat wave takes hold of north Georgia.
Highs earlier this week were hovering near or below the average of 90°, but temperatures soar for the second half of the week. Heat index values in the afternoons will be in the triple digits for many.
Heat illness is possible. If you have to be outdoors in the afternoon and evening when the heat is most intense, take breaks to cool down. Stay hydrated, and check on family and neighbors.
Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s on Friday. With high humidity, it will feel much hotter.
Forecast Feels-Like Temperatures in the metro will climb to 98 to 105 in the afternoon Friday.
Temperatures fall a little bit this weekend. It will still be hot, but we'll stay shy of dangerous heat criteria by Saturday.
