ATLANTA — Cold air is rushing in behind our cold front. This is increasing the winds across north Georgia. A wind advisory will be in effect until 7 p.m. this evening.
We've already had a peak gust of 41 mph at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The peak wind gust in Peachtree City at Falcon Field was 39 mph. And in Canton, the peak gust has been 36 mph.

The entire north Georgia region remains in the wind advisory through early this evening. Sustained winds today will be out of the northwest around 20-25 mph. Additional wind gusts around 40 mph are possible!
After picking up 1/2" to 3" of rain over the last 48 hours, the ground is saturated. These strong wind gusts could be enough for a few trees to give way by the root system. Isolated power outages are possible.
The peak wind gusts will happen between now and 4 p.m. Forecast track shows the wind gusts over 30 mph through the late afternoon.
Winds should become a little lighter as we get to sunset and beyond.
For Thursday, winds should be lighter, at just 5 - 10 mph from the northwest.
