16-year-old accused of murdering man, dumping body

COVINGTON, Ga. -- A 16-year-old is charged with murdering the man who gave him and his friends a ride.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation after a body was dumped along a rural road in Covington. The man was identified as Enrique Ramirez Trejo. He had been shot multiple times.

11Alive spoke with a witness who heard gunshots Saturday night. “I was outside and I saw the lights,” she said. “We thought maybe something was happening; then I heard maybe four or five gunshots. The car stayed for a few more minutes and then quickly sped off.”

Investigators now believe 16-year-old Antavian Love fired those shots.

Police tracked Trejo's final moments. He was working at the El Charo restaurant until 11:30 Saturday night. He left in his 1999 Ford Expedition. He stopped at a Shell Convenience store just down the road at Highway 36 and the Covington Bypass.

Enrique Ramirez Trejo was found murdered along a rural road in Newton County.

Surveillance video from the gas station shows Trejo talking to three young men and then giving them a ride. Trjo's body was found just a few miles down the road.

Sunday night, police spotted that Expedition traveling on Brown Bridge Road. When police tried to make a traffic stop, several subjects got out and ran. Police caught them.

After interviewing the teens and gathering evidence, police arrested 16-year-old Antavian Love. He was charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft by taking, and theft by receiving.

"The case is still ongoing and additional people will be interviewed, additional evidence will be collected," a Newton County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.

Luis Trejo, the victim's son, said that they had Father's Day plans for him on Sunday.

"We were going to have a cookout, and me and my sister had a plan for him and my mother to go out, get a hotel -- have a day off," Trejo said.

The family is now in the process of setting up funeral plans. They hope to raise money for the funeral with a GoFundMe account.
