CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities report that eight people have been taken to the hospital - some with critical injuries - after a Cherokee County house fire Tuesday night.
Cherokee County firefighters arrived in the 1100 block of Franklin Gold Mine Road around 11 p.m. after a neighbor reported the flames next door. Arriving crews found the home completely in flames and eight victims with injuries ranging from burns to smoke inhalation.

"Among those transported to the hospital included five children and three adults," said Danny West, support services division chief for Cherokee County Emergency Services.
The department hasn't released which of the victims was severely injured.
Fire investigator Shane Daniel said the exact cause of the fire is unclear and that the investigation is ongoing.
