Investigation into inmate's death leads to jail meth bust, 5 arrests

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. —The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in after an inmate in the custody of Habersham County Sheriff's deputies died.

According to the GBI, 38-year-old inmate Robert Mosley of Highlands, North Carolina died April 9 after suffering a medical emergency believed to be related to drug use.

According to the investigation, Mosley used methamphetamine the day before his death. An autopsy is set Friday, April 13.

When investigators looked into how Mosley was able to get the drugs, officials discovered several inmates and another person on the outside were responsible for funneling the meth inside.

Authorities arrested the following:

  • Krystal Chastain, 33, of Clarkseville
  • Inmate Daniel Campbell, 38, of Clarkesville
  • Inmate Christopher Kinney, 44, of Clarkesville
  • Inmate Jason Mealor, 38, of Clarkesville
  • Inmate Bill James Webb, 32, of Clarkesville

Officials charged Chastain with conspiracy to distribute meth, possession of meth with intent to distribute and crossing guard line with drugs. Champbell was charged with conspiracy to distribute meth. All others were charged with conspiracy to distribute meth, possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of drugs by an inmate.

More charges could come.
