Parent's tip leads to arrest of student after threatening social media post

After interviewing parents and students, the suspect was identified and located.

CUMMING, Ga. - A 16-year-old male was arrested for allegedly making threats related to West Forsyth High School.

On Wednesday night, February 21, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office was notified by a concerned parent of an alleged social media post published by a student that allegedly showed a firearm and made threats to West Forsyth High School.

The sheriff's office collaborated with the Forsyth County Schools System and started an investigation into the allegations.

After interviewing parents and students, the suspect was identified and located.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit and School Resources Unit then interviewed the student who allegedly made these threats, along with his parents, and determined the student needed to be taken into custody.

He was charged with one count of terroristic threats and acts then turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

"We continue to strongly urge students, parents, and faculty to say something if they see or hear of ANY suspicious activity."
