An Atlanta man is tackling a 386-mile journey, marching from the metro area to Memphis for a cause.

For Terence Lester, executive director of the nonprofit Love Beyond Walls, it’s a double mission: to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and take a stand against poverty.

“This march is a testament to the legacy of Dr. King and to shed light on the millions of people across the nation from all walks of life and nationalities who experience the harsh realities of homelessness and poverty. It is time for the next generation to pick up the baton and we are on the frontlines to leading the charge,” said Lester.

Currently, on day four of the month-long journey, Lester is documenting his trek on social media.

According to a news release, the March Against Poverty includes a partnership with the Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Lester plans to make it to the historic Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN by April 4. Lester previously walked from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. in 2016 for a national campaign to raise awareness for those fighting against systemic poverty.
