BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — Red flames and billows of black smoke could be seen on Lake Allatoona Sunday morning after a boat caught fire.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, a Game Warden responded to a boat fire around 9 a.m. on the lake at the Blockhouse Boat Ramp in Bartow County. Upon arrival, the Game Warden determined the boat caught fire when the operator started the engine.
All occupants exited the boat, got to shore and pushed the boat into the main body of the lake, DNR said. Bartow County Fire also responded and extinguished the fire but the boat was a total loss.
DNR said that one person had a small burn to the hand and refused treatment from emergency medical services. No charges are expected to be filed, and no foul play is suspected.
