GRIFFIN, Ga. - The brother of one of the Henry County deputies who was shot Friday while serving a warrant is also the pastor at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Griffin, and he preached a special sermon Sunday entitled, “When there’s no answer.”
“God knows what he’s doing, but it don’t take away the pain,” said Wade Corley, brother of Michael Corley. “God knows everything, but that still doesn’t take away the pain.”
Corley, along with Henry County deputy Ralph Sidwell Callaway, were shot inside the home of a man to whom they were serving a warrant, identified as Tierre Guthrie. Locust Grove police officer Chase Maddox, 26, was killed in the gun battle, as was Guthrie.
Maddox, 26, was a five-year veteran of the Locust Grove police department after serving in the National Guard.
Price said Maddox and his wife were the parents of one child and were expecting another. (A GoFundme account has been created for Maddox's family. Click here for more)
"It became apparent that the suspect was not going to go with police, which is why a Locust Grove officer was called in to assist," said Henry County Sheriff Kenneth McBrayer.
An altercation occurred and Guthrie fired shots through the door, authorities said.
Corley was released from Atlanta Medical Center after the shootout, but Callaway is still in the hospital.
“I could’ve been planning his funeral today,” Corley said of his brother. Instead, he preached a sermon on Sunday and dedicated it to those in blue.
