Student arrested for allegedly pointing gun at another student's throat at school

The suspect allegedly had a gun at school and pointed it at a classmate.

CONYERS, Ga. - A mother's tip to police led them to arrest a student who allegedly pointed a gun at another student's neck while on school property.

On February 14, an officer with Rockdale County Sheriff's Office responded to an assault incident at Heritage High School in Conyers. The officer met with the victim who told him that the incident happened on February 5.

On the day of the incident, the victim and a fellow student went to the restroom together. The alleged suspect was telling the victim a story when the victim told the suspect to 'shut up'. The suspect then said, 'You're not talking to me'.

The victim then said he turned around and when he turned back around, the suspect had produced a gun and was pointing it at his neck. The suspect then put the gun up, hit the victim in the chest and walked out of the restroom.

Upon further investigation, the officer discovered surveillance footage from inside the school that shows both the victim and the suspect, along with other students, walking into and out of the restroom during the day of the alleged incident.

Text messages between the victim and his girlfriend, discovered by the victim's mother, revealed conversations between the two about the alleged incident inside the restroom. The girlfriend asked the victim why the suspect pulled a gun on him.

From there, the officer then interviewed a student who had accompanied the suspect and the victim to the restroom on the day of the incident. This student was unable to confirm whether or not there was a gun but did tell police that he heard 'something hit something', and when he came out of the stall he asked what had happened. The victim then told the student what happened.

After several interviews, the officer then placed the suspect into custody.

Rockdale County Schools sent out this statement in response to the incident,

"The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We ask parents to talk with their children about the seriousness and consequences of bringing anything inappropriate on campus. Equally important is that students talk with an adult if they see or hear something inappropriate on social media or on campus. We work collaboratively with local law enforcement and appreciate our partnerships to provide safe learning environments across all of our schools."
