Police in Flowery Branch are investigating the city's first murder in nearly 5 years after finding the body of a man on the front porch of an area home.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Police in Flowery Branch are investigating the city's first murder in nearly 5 years after finding the body of a man on the front porch of an area home.

The city's police chief said Rico Bledson is a lifelong resident of Hall County.

And on Saturday night, officers found him on the front porch of a home with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Around 10 p.m., after receiving a call about a suspicious person, officers came to the home in the 5600 block of Chinook Court.

After finding Bledson on the porch, he was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, but ultimately the 39-year-old was pronounced dead.

Police Chief David Spillers said the murder investigation is still in the very early stages and that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is being asked to call Flowery Branch police.

The mayor of Flowery Branch said the city's last murder took place almost 5 years ago in September of 2011.
