Pulled fire alarm, social media threat allowing students to leave early at Northview High

But police believe the threat may have been aimed at Northview High School in Dothan, AL.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga - A social media threat, along with a pulled fire alarm, at Northview High School on Friday allowed any frightened students to leave the school early.

According to a Fulton County schools spokesperson, police believe the threat may have been aimed at Northview High School in Dothan, AL.

"That hasn't lessened the fear, in light of what happened in Florida," the system said. "Also, someone pulled a fire alarm, and that increased the unease among everyone at the school. Students are being allowed to leave with their parent’s permission."

Johns Creek police are assisting Fulton police at the school.

According to the Dothan Eagle, three 15-year-old students were charged with making terrorist threats after their comments and a photo were allegedly posted on SnapChat Thursday evening.

Here is a message that was sent to parents on Friday from assistant principal Robert Hunter:

"This email is to confirm that we are aware that a post made on social media about a possible threat to the school is circulating today. We take all threats seriously and are currently investigating the situation. Out of an abundance of caution, we will have extra security on campus throughout the remainder of the day.

"I have also been in contact with the John’s Creek police, who are also increasing their presence by patrolling our campus.

"We are aware of the social media post, and thank the students and parents who did exactly the right thing and when they saw something, said something. With everything going on in the country right now, especially in light of the terrible tragedy in Florida, it is important that students know that we take student safety very seriously and we are constantly monitoring everything at our school to ensure we are safe."
