ATHENS, Ga. — Police in Athens are investigating a body found floating in a nearby river Saturday afternoon.
The body was found by kayakers in the Middle Oconee River near St. George Drive around 1 p.m., according to Athens-Clarke County police.
The body was removed from the river and is being taken by the county coroner to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
Authorities don't believe there is evidence of foul play so far but hope the autopsy will provide more answers. Police haven't released more details since the investigation is ongoing, however, they're asking anyone with information to contact Lt. Joe Geiger at Joe.Geiger@accgov.com.
