1 hospitalized after fire sparks at Snellville home

SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Authorities said one person was hurt after a fire broke out in the second story of a Snellville, Georgia home, Monday. 

According to the Gwinnett County Fire Department, firefighters responded around 5 p.m. to the home off Quinn Ridge Drive SW. When they got there, the saw smoke billowing out of the two-story house and a person hurt in the front yard. Police, who were already on scene when firefighters got there, were assisting the person. The victim was taken to Grady Hospital for treatment.

Fire crews were able to contain the flames to an upstairs bedroom, which was quickly extinguished. 

Investigators still don't know the exact cause of the fire, but officials say it is under active investigation. There were no other victims found and no additional injuries were reported. 

The fire department said the flames caused extensive damage in the room where it started, but sent smoke throughout the second floor.
