Multiple units damaged after fire at Sandy Springs apartment complex, officials say

The fire broke out at a complex on Colquitt Road.

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Editor's note: The following story has been updated to more accurately reflect the name of the complex.

Authorities in Sandy Springs are investigating an overnight fire that happened at an apartment complex on Colquitt Road.

Specifically, this is at the Rosemont Dunwoody.

Right now, there is little information from authorities about how the fire started. However, Sandy Springs Fire Chief Keith Sanders said crews arrived on the scene around 4:17 a.m.

Thankfully, Sanders said no injuries were reported. However, four of the eight units from the complex were destroyed.

Fire officials said 10 to 15 people are getting help to find temporary shelter

Residents and authorities described a woman who jumped from a second-floor window in order to escape the smoke.

11Alive spoke to a pair of brothers who noticed the flames and jumped into action.

“We checked the outdoors, and the apartment above us on the opposite side was smoking," said Yogi Patel.

When the men made it outside, they noticed the woman who needed help.

“We just all went outside and there was a lady screaming. Help Me! Help me! So we all broke the door," said Vhrude Patel.

Fire Chief Sanders said the cause of the blaze is under investigation but wants to remind everyone to be careful.

“Before you go to bed, make sure you don’t have anything there that could create a fire hazard," said Sanders.
