Man hit by car near Marietta Diner dies

The victim was not in a crosswalk, police said.

ATLANTA -- A man hit while walking in the road in front of a popular metro Atlanta diner has died, police confirmed Thursday morning.

According to preliminary reports from the Marietta Police Department, 29-year-old Micahel A. Oreggio was walking across Cobb Parkway near Marietta Diner around 10:20 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound motorist near Freys Gin Road.

Oreggio was taken to Kennestone Hospital in critical condition after the accident but ultimately died of his injuries. Police said the victim was not in a crosswalk when the accident happened.

Marietta's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is still investigating the crash and asking anyone with information to contact Officer Samimi at 770-794-5384.
