Hall County fire officials are investigating what led a fire that killed 20 horses and two dogs in East Hall County Friday night.
Firefighters were called to the 4100 block of Pillsbury Road off Three Bridges Road at around 10 p.m., Friday. They arrived to find the 200-foot chicken house about 70 percent engulfed in flames.
Hall County Fire Services Captain Zachary Brackett said Saturday that 20 horses and two dogs died in the fire. There were no other injuries reported.
The chicken house had been leased out for use as a horse stable.
Firefighters had to use a water shuttle from a hydrant more than half a mile from the scene to help extinguish the flames. A tanker from Jackson County was also called in for additional assistance.
Hall County Public Works was called out to treat the intersection of Three Bridges Road and Pillsbury Road for possible icing from the trucks filling up with water.
