ATLANTA - As part of an ongoing investigation into alleged open records violations, GBI agents were at Atlanta City Hall on Wednesday, coordinating meetings with city employees.
According to a city hall spokesperson, the agents did not retrieve any documents or conduct any interviews, nor did they deliver any subpoenas.
"Contrary to reports, the City Attorney did not ‘sneak out’ of the building, but instead attended a pre-planned lunch meeting out of the office during the unannounced visit of the agents," the spokesperson said.
According to the GBI, its investigation centers around a request from the Georgia Attorney General.
Besides the city's legal counsel, the city hall spokesperson said former Georgia Attorney Generals Sam Olens and Thurbert Baker will be working with the GBI "to provide all requested documentation and coordinate interviews accordingly.”
Earlier this month, new Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms asked her entire cabinet to resign, as part of a new set of policies designed to ensure greater transparency in city government.
