The Georgia Dome has been a staple in Atlanta events for over two decades and on Nov. 20, the city bids farewell to the popular landmark.
The Georgia Dome implosion is set for 7:30 in the morning on Monday, Nov. 20 and one of the first things that come to many people’s minds is, “where can I watch the implosion?”
Safety is the first step and the Georgia World Congress Center announced they will not have a public viewing of the implosion. However, there are other options.
You can watch the entirety of the implosion from the comfort of your home with a Georgia Dome Implosion special report on 11Alive beginning at 7 a.m. The Today Show will instead air on WATL.
If you’re at work, you can watch the implosion online and on social media at 11Alive.com.
In case you’re feeling up to more of a party atmosphere, some hotels and business in the area will be throwing ‘watch parties’ for the event.
The night before the implosion, The Mammal Gallery will be throwing a ‘Sleep Show’ beginning at 10 p.m. that last through Monday at 6 a.m. at their Broad Street location. This event is to “tribute the Georgia Dome through sensory excess.” At 6:30 a.m. on Monday, the group will walk to the Georgia Dome to watch the implosion from afar.

If you want a look from above, The Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar & View at the Westin Hotel is throwing a ‘Georgia Dome Implosion Party’ that begins at 6:45 a.m. on Monday. They will have all three levels of the restaurant open for viewing. The Sun Dial will be serving complimentary pastries and coffee for attendees. The cost of the event is $50 per person and reservations can be made by calling 404-589-7506.
Other surrounding hotels are not having watch parties but the Omni Hotel at the CNN Center has a select number of rooms available with a view of the Georgia Dome. You can call (404) 818-4406 to make a reservation. Note, the rooms are located on the thirteenth floor and up with an additional charge of $25 for the event.
If you decide to venture downtown to watch the implosion on your own, officials ask that you stay out of the restricted area outlined in red below. No one will be allowed inside the perimeter from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
