The Atlanta Braves have tapped Los Angeles Dodgers executive Alex Anthopoulos as the club’s next general manager, USA TODAY Sports confirmed late Sunday night.
Anthopoulos, the former Toronto Blue Jays GM, will be in charge of baseball decisions, according to person with knowledge of the hiring who is not authorized to speak publicly because the move hasn't been announced. The Braves are expected to announce Anthopoulos as the team's new GM early this week.
The Braves have been without a GM since John Coppolella resigned on Oct. 2 amid an MLB investigation into a potential breach of rules regarding the international player market.
The New York Post was the first outlet to report Anthopoulos' hire.
Anthopoulos, 40, had been the Dodgers' vice president of baseball operations, a position he held since he left the Blue Jays after the 2015 season.
Alex Anthopoulos will be officially announced as the #Braves GM this week at the GM Meetings, just two years after he left #Bluejays, walking away from $10 million offer to stay in demoted role
