Georgia's run has come to an end, and now the questions surrounding the future of the program will ramp up.
The Bulldogs-- roughly 24 hours after upsetting the Missouri Tigers-- couldn't put up quality shots and were eliminated in the SEC Tournament by the Kentucky Wildcats 62-49.
Georgia's hopes for getting a bid into the NCAA tournament have evaporated. The Bulldogs' only hopes of getting into the Big Dance rested solely on winning the SEC Tournament because of a inconsistent regular season.
However, their season is likely not over with an invite to the NIT Tournament probably coming their way on Sunday. But that won't satisfy the fans or Georgia's administration, and it could mean the end of the road for head coach Mark Fox.
The Bulldogs hung around with the Wildcats early despite poor shooting, turnovers and the Wildcats swarming Georgia's best player Yante Maten, the AP SEC Player of the Year.
Maten had nine points, five of which were at the free-throw line. Maten may have injured his knee late in the first half. He was walking gingerly after missing a basket in the post and falling underneath the action. But he stayed in the game, and Kentucky continued to stifle him in the paint.
Tyree Crump made four threes and scored 17 points for the Bulldogs, a team high.
Kevin Knox and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander each had threes early in the second half to extend Kentucky's lead and give the Wildcats a good cushion throughout the second half. Neither team was shooting especially well. Georgia shot 29 percent from the floor, Kentucky 43 percent.
It was Kentucky's first game in the SEC tournament. Georgia was playing its third game in as many days, and fatigue may have gotten to them.
Everyone will be on edge, waiting to see if Georgia makes any immediate announcement on Fox who is in his ninth season with the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have only been to the NCAA tournament twice under Fox and have never won a tournament game.
Kentucky moves on to the semifinals where they will face Alabama who upset Auburn earlier in the day.
