ATHENS, Ga. -- Former Ohio State men's basketball coach Thad Matta says he has removed himself from consideration for the head coaching job at the University of Georgia.
"It was the most difficult decision because Georgia is a tremendous opportunity for a coach to build a great program," the 50-year-old Matta told ESPN early Wednesday afternoon.
Matta had met with officials at UGA twice this week and had been offered the job, according to ESPN. The Bulldogs fired former head coach Mark Fox last week after UGA bowed out of the SEC Tournament in a quarterfinal loss to Kentucky.
