Lanes reopen after bus fire shuts down I-75 on Fulton-Cobb border

A CobbLinc bus caught fire and caused major traffic congestion on Wednesday.

ATLANTA — A bus fire on I-75 caused a bit of a headache for motorists trying to head north into Cobb County at the end of their workday on Wednesday.

The fire happened near the Cumberland Boulevard exit from northbound I-75 not far from where it crosses the Chattahoochee River.  A spokesperson for Atlanta Fire said that both their department and Cobb County firefighters were called to the scene and that no injuries were initially reported.

A spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol said their troopers rolled up on the fire, which involved a CobbLinc bus when it was already heavily burned. Troopers weren't able to give an exact number of passengers who were on the bus but said that all were able to get off safely.

The big impact ended up being northbound traffic which, at one point, was backed up nearly to the Downtown Connector.
