Emergency crews have had their hands full after a tractor-trailer fire and seven-car pile-up on opposite sides of I-20, Tuesday night.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Newton County authorities were initially working the fire in the westbound lanes of I-20 when drivers going the other way ended up in a chain reaction crash while apparently trying to watch the flames while heading east.
The two separate incidents tied up traffic for quite a while as crews worked to clear the way. And while the pile-up has since been cleared, westbound lanes where the truck caught fire are still heavily blocked as crews work to clear debris.
As of 10 p.m. there was no estimated time for that section of road to be cleared. Motorists not already stuck in the gridlock are being warned to take another route.
