ATLANTA — Catherine Williams will likely feel like the "Life of a Party" when Shawn Mendes makes a concert stop in Atlanta. But it will not be the 17-year-old's "Imagination" when she meets him before the show.
In May, Williams was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of cancer that produces immature bones. She has been receiving treatment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta since.
And thanks to radio show "PK In The Morning," she will be meeting her favorite artist.
The golden opportunity arose when morning-show host PK asked the hospital if they knew of any Shawn Mendes fans. Nurses instantly knew who to pick.
From there, the hospital, PK and Catherine’s mother came together to devise the best way to surprise her.
“I was so surprised when I first heard about it. I had no idea it was going to happen,” Williams said.
The night will be a triple-success for Williams because she will hear her favorite song from Mendes - "In My Blood" - as the final track of the show.
“I’m definitely most excited about meeting him. I’ve never met somebody that famous before,” Williams said.
Every year between 800 and 900 new cases of osteosarcoma are diagnosed in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society.
Mendes will be performing at State Farm Arena on July 31 as part of his "The Tour" show cycle.
