How coronavirus is impacting Georgia’s entertainment industry

In Georgia, there has been one COVID-19 death reported in the state.

ATLANTA — Some of this year’s biggest events and productions have been put on hold amidst the growing concerns of the coronavirus pandemic.

In Georgia, there has been one COVID-19 death reported in the state. As of Friday, there have been 42 cases of people contracting the virus throughout the state.

The pandemic has impacted several industries in the global marketplace, including the entertainment world.

Several major sporting events, conferences, and scheduled televised events have been canceled as a result of precautions being taken to keep people away from potential exposure to the virus.

This has also impacted Georgia’s film and television industry.  On Tuesday, “GAMEMASTERS,” an upcoming esports competition series announced they were impacted by the cancellation of SXSW, an annual tech conference in Austin, Texas.

The show, which is hosted by Will Wheaton, was set to have a string of events, including an awards show for gamers.

Laurie Lockliear, executive producer for “GAMEMASTER,” told the A-Scene its production is taking necessary health precautions as the show picks up filming in the coming weeks.

Deadline reported that a traveling production for the upcoming Disney+ series “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” has been canceled due to the government in Prague closing schools and other institutions.

The Atlanta-based production will likely halt plans to return to the country for re-shoots.

The global release date for “A Quiet Place Part II” has been canceled due to the growing concerns for the coronavirus.

A rep for the film tells 11Alive’s The A-Scene that the screening, which was scheduled for Monday, March 16 at Regal Hollywood in Atlanta, has been canceled.

Walt Disney Studios has postponed the worldwide release of “Mulan." The film was scheduled to open on Friday, March 27. Since the film’s release date is postponed, the studio has canceled two screenings in Atlanta.

State Farm Arena has announced the Erykah Badu and Common concert scheduled for Friday night is postponed.

Atlanta’s urban radio station V-103 as also postponing their upcoming “V-103 Live” show originally scheduled for March 30.

On Friday, Six Flags Over Georgia announced it has temporarily suspended operations until the end of March.
