J. Cole gives shout out to metro Atlanta woman who says his music saved her life

The 29-year-old is suffering from severe epilepsy, an early phase of skin cancer and the loss of her older brother.

NEWNAN, Ga. — Music saves lives. Don't believe it? Just ask a Newnan resident who says J. Cole's saved hers.

Felicia Amon, 29, is a huge fan of the Grammy nominated rap superstar. There is no doubt about that. She has been to more than 100 of his concerts and says "there's nobody quite like him."

His music impacts fans worldwide, but for Amon, it's his story that hits close to home. Since 11Alive is Where Atlanta Speaks, 11Alive's Cheryl Preheim went to visit Amon at her Newnan home to talk about J. Cole's song.

"You can relate to him," Amon said with a smile ear-to-ear. "Honestly, there's a song for every mood. It doesn't matter how you are feeling, there's a song you can listen to."

But behind this super fan's smile, lies pain.

Recent circumstances have made her life, at times, feel unbearable.

Amon is suffering from severe epilepsy - which bring her constant seizures, she's dealing with an early phase of skin cancer and the loss of her older brother.

"They're things you have to adjust to. Listening to his music gets me through that."

J. Cole's music brings her peace. But what he doesn't know is a surprise shout out may have saved her life.

In his new song titled "Prove It," he talks about Amon attending his shows from the very beginning.

"Today, I saw you post some terrible news as I scroll, so this one is for you, want you to pull through, I better see you on the road."

She said that couldn't have come at a better time.

"Last month at this time, I wouldn't have cared if I woke up," Amon said. "I needed that. Someone that I rooted for for so long is turning around and rooting for me? You can't explain that."

It was a change of heart and a step toward ongoing happiness, she said.

Keep dreaming, Felicia. It's the Dreamville way.
