ATLANTA — Our hearts go out to James Gunn, director of “The Suicide Squad: 2,” which is a movie that was being filmed right here in Georgia.
Gunn not only took to Instagram to show us the final days of the movie's production, with stars like Jennifer Holland, but he also shared that this was one of the hardest and most fulfilling times in his life.
In this Instagram post, he revealed that working on the film was emotionally challenging, as his father died shortly before the production began. His dog also passed two weeks before the end of filming.
The upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics antihero team “Suicide Squad” will hit theaters August 2021.
“The professionalism, talent, compassion and kindness of this cast and crew inspired me every day. Thanks to everyone involved in this film, in every stage of development, in every department - I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for you all. You are why I make movies,” Gunn wrote.
"El Dorado" was the working title for the upcoming "Suicide Squad" sequel. S&K Pictures sent a filming notification to residents nearby Pinewood Studios where crews were working on the feature film.
The notification was a warning to resident that they may hear noise "audible beyond the confines of the Pinewood Campus." That included special effects such as pyrotechnics that will be in scenes that have explosions.
Police and fire crews were on site for the scheduled shoots that took place between Feb. 26-29.
Atlanta residents also spotted the stars out and about off set. Idris Elba was spotted at a Hawks game back in November.
The A-List star was spotted taking pics with some ball players before the game. An Insider tells The A-Scene Elba chatted it up with Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins in addition to both Vince Carter and Trae Young.

We’ve previously spotted Gunn hanging out with the cast members off set throughout the city of Atlanta.
Poor Calvin’s, which is an Asian fusion restaurant off Piedmont, was the choice for dining for Gunn, just a few weeks ago.
He posted these photos on his Instagram: You can see Michael Rooker, Pom Klementief from "Guardians of the Galaxy," Jennifer Holland and German actor Flula Borg. No sign of Elba, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis or John Cena.
The A-Scene found out the eatery is a tradition for the crew. We found this photo from Holland’s page at the same restaurant back in 2016.
Gunn says he goes for the goat cheese. A few weeks prior, the director celebrated Holland's birthday in town.
After some fall inspired festivities, that apparently included pumpkin carving, Gunn posted on Instagram.
