Man waits overnight to win Whataburger for a year in Georgia

According to Whataburger, Rudy, the realtor, started waiting in line around 10:30 p.m. on Monday in hopes of taking home the prize.

ATLANTA — One lucky person officially won Whataburger for a year as part of a gift basket at the chain's first Atlanta location on Tuesday, according to the burger joint.

According to Whataburger, Rudy, the realtor, started waiting in line around 10:30 p.m. on Monday in hopes of taking home the prize.

The new store at 2955 Cobb Parkway Southeast in the Vinings area in Cobb County also marks number 1,000 for the franchise company. In January, when the store opening was announced, the franchise said the first two people in the drive-thru line would win the Whataburger for a year gift baskets but have not said who the second person is.

The restaurant opened at noon on Jan. 16.

Whataburger first came to the metro Atlanta area in November 2022 when it opened its first location in Kennesaw. There is now a total of 13 Whataburgers across the metro -- in cities such as Athens, Buford, Commerce, Covington, Cumming, Dawsonville, Kennesaw, Monroe, Newnan, Snellville, Thomasville, Woodstock and now Atlanta.

Whataburger said over the next five years, it hopes to have more than 50 locations in the Atlanta area over the next six years.

Whataburger is located in 16 states, most prominently featured in Texas, which has 734 locations.
