ATLANTA — A free adoption event on Saturday placed 268 animals in Atlanta area homes, according to the Atlanta Humane Society.
The event was coordinated between the Atlanta Humane Society, Best Friends Animal Society and LifeLine Animal Project.
“Yesterday, something amazing happened,” the Humane Society tweeted on Sunday morning. “268 animals from across Atlanta’s animal shelters spent their first night in new forever homes, and we couldn’t be more grateful!”
The event cleared its goal of placing 200 animals in homes. Adoptions were free for pets more than six months old.
Enthusiasm was so high, there was a line well out the door at the Humane Society when it opened Saturday morning.
The organizations stayed open late and had pajama parties to help drive adoption.
A Facebook Live on Saturday evening showed off empty rows of kennels, after the more than 200 animals had left that day for their new homes.
