Atlanta rapper T.I. hosts 19th annual turkey giveaway for 1,000 families

On Tuesday afternoon, T.I. hosted his 19th annual turkey drive at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.

ATLANTA — Ahead of Thanksgiving, Atlanta rapper T.I. and Mayor Andre Dickens teamed up for a turkey giveaway for the community.

On Tuesday afternoon, T.I. hosted his 19th annual turkey drive at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. A total of 1,000 families received turkeys for their Thanksgiving meals.

T.I. and the mayor shared what they're most thankful for over the holidays.

"Thankful for family, thankful for friends and partners, thankful for just being able to give to the community," T.I. said. "Thankful for the mayor showing up again and thankful for the city."

Dickens echoed T.I. in saying he's thankful for friends, family and good health.

"And good generous people that want to be able to be supportive in the community like T.I.," the mayor added.

T.I. was also joined by his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Harris, and family and rapper Young Dro.

"What brings me out here today is community, giving back, of course, my brother T.I... We're at my cousin's church, Gregory Sutton," Young Dro said. "It's good to give back, it's good to be connected, especially to the young because they're the ones leading us in the future."

Young Dro also shared what he was most grateful for this Thanksgiving.

"I'm grateful for family, I'm grateful for the food, I'm grateful for clothes on my back," he said. "I remember struggling for a meal and having to go to school just for a meal... to see this right here today, it's amazing."

Back in October, T.I. announced his retirement during an appearance on Atlanta radio station 96.1 The Beat's "Rari at 2" show with Young Dro. His final performance will be in Atlanta at the station's annual Jingle Ball next month.

“I appreciate y’all for offering me my last working gig because I do not need the money anymore and I will not be performing,” he previously said. “I don’t want to do it anymore… I don’t want people to pay me to hop around and sweat for their entertainment anymore.”
